Minister emphasizes the importance of waterpower to Ontario’s economic recovery
(May 26, 2021) The Ontario Waterpower Association’s (OWA) is celebrating the 20th annual Power of Water Canada Conference and Tradeshow, once again the premier hydroelectric sector event in Canada. The virtual conference has attracted participants from across the globe and features an extensive lineup of policy, technical and operational sessions as well as close to forty (40) exhibitors.
This year’s opening keynote speaker, the Honourable Bill Walker, Associate Minister of Energy, spoke to the importance of waterpower to the province’s energy policy and thanked OWA member companies for their commitment and dedication throughout the pandemic and during the economic recovery. “Our government is working to create a world class energy sector in Ontario that is clean, reliable and affordable,” said the Minister. “Waterpower is a vitally important part of the vision.”
The three-day Power of Water Canada Conference and Tradeshow features industry thought leaders addressing a wide range of important topics including the emergence of hydrogen strategies, meeting net zero targets, national, continental and international approaches to sustainability and the socioeconomic impact of ongoing investment in waterpower facilities.
“This event always brings the waterpower family together and I am extremely pleased to celebrate our twentieth anniversary with such an outstanding program,” added Paul Norris, President of the Ontario Waterpower Association. “Waterpower’s resilience, reliability and affordability will be a foundation for economic recovery both here at home and around the world.”
