Affordable, Reliable, Sustainable Electricity

(October 30, 2018 – Niagara on the Lake) Today at the largest gathering of the hydroelectric industry in the nation – the Power of Water Canada Conference – the Ontario Waterpower Association released its Strategic Plan for 2019-2021, entitled “Reinventing and Reinvesting”.  The Plan outlines the industry’s vision that Waterpower is recognized as the most valued electricity source in Ontario – Affordable, Reliable and Sustainable.

“I am extremely pleased and excited to have the opportunity to share our organization’s vision and goals with delegates from across Canada and North America”, said Paul Norris, President of the OWA and host for the event. “Waterpower is the backbone of our electricity supply and is critical to meeting our economic and environmental objectives.”

The annual Power of Water Canada Conference and Tradeshow is the premier event of its kind. This’ year’s packed agenda was led off with perspectives from the International Hydropower Association, the National Hydropower Association, the Canadian Hydropower Association and the OWA – all organizations with the shared objective of advancing waterpower regionally, nationally and globally.

The OWA’s 2019-2021 Strategic Plan sharply focuses on the dual objectives of sustaining and enhancing existing waterpower assets and providing new opportunities for waterpower development. These objectives are supported by the pillars of Responsible Advocacy, Member Value and Public Promotion.

“Our Board and team is looking forward to working for the membership and with partners in implementing this plan”, added Norris. “We are committed to the mission of informing public policy to maintain, enhance and build opportunity for this industry.”

The OWA was founded in 2001 to represent the common and collective interests of the province’s original green energy sector – waterpower. More than 150 members are committed to advancing responsible resource management and sustainable development. www.owa.ca.
